Elmer: his mushroom that I found has a distinctive yellow stem bottom.
The gills are decurrent.
The spore print is dark brown.
The spores are oblong and 4 to 5 by 10 to 12 microns.
is this Gomphidius oregonensis? If not what is it?

Katie: I have these mushrooms too and I could not figure out what it was.

Dick B: It's often hard to tell the difference between G. oregonensis and G. glutinosus
without measuring the spores.
The spore size is definitive and puts your mushroom solidly in the G. oregonensis camp.
The only thing that seems curious is the brown spore print.
All the Gomphidius should have a dark gray to black spore print.
Also it doesn't seem very glutinous either on the cap or the stipe.
I would be interested in looking at it later if you can dry it.
